Sustainability Policy
“The reason that I originally left the fashion industry, was the endless over-sampling. This was a decade before the phrase “fast fashion” became a potent dialogue.” - Jonathan
We adopt a simple philosophy. Producing products with purpose. Our sustainability policy is robustly simple. With a clear vision that quality shines from the inside, our procurement partners are exemplary in their craft and uphold values that we are perfectly aligned with. Low emission transportation for all goods by road, products that are made by hand using low wattage electricity (our wax melting equipment runs on wattage less than a lightbulb.
Our Glassware:
We have a fifteen-year relationship with global manufacturer Luigi Bormioli: A global glassware business founded in the 16th century, uploading certificates of excellence in precision glassware. With multiple patents for innovation and molecular excellence the company has partnered with Jonathan Ward for fifteen years.
Our Wax:
Certified organic by the Soil Association and blended from three certified organic sources. Vegetable, Beeswax and coconut waxes purposely avoiding soy.
Our Packaging:
We have a singular and dedicated relationship with a family-owned business named Benwells. Specialising in lithographic presses that uphold century-old printing techniques. With most volume printing achieved overseas to achieve leaner prices despite the carbon footprint, we purposely remained British.
Our Fragrances
We construct entirely original aromas composed from premium ingredients that adhere to IFRA’s global compliance. A mixture of essential oils and the finest aroma chemicals used to ensure that the world’s natural olfactory resources are not depleted or endangered further.
Our Manufacture:
Each Jonathan Ward candle is hand-poured using no glue or resins for our cotton wick application. We invested in our own glass etching and engraving equipment to achieve less movement between product processes.
Recycling:
Over the next few years we will aim to invest in pulp processing, which aims to use the boxes that we receive from others and turn them into corrugate pulp that can be shaped into our own outer boxes.
Future Goals;
We have products made of many parts. Our future goals are to consolidate and reduce the impact of these moving parts, so that where possible we can make manufacturing an onsite operation that focuses on reducing carbon footprint year by year.
