Inspired by the origins of chiaroscuro, Roscuro (meaning “light and shade”) is a legacy painting style forged by the late artist Caravaggio.
He cultivated this style throughout his career using the beauty of bringing people and objects into brilliant foreground light from the shadows.
In 1606 Caravaggio tipped from his own light into personal darkness by committing murder under alcoholic duress.
Roscuro is an exploration of the artist’s frequent oscillation between serenity and sin.
The structure of the fragrance gently spirals upwards from warm Cambodian Baillonil Wood (Oud) and Amber. Sensual masculinity and addictive embrace. The heart of the fragrance wraps iris root in touches of honey and hay. The top notes exhale a nostalgic breath of dried prune with subtle traces of patchouli. Imagine the ebb of dawn sunshine reaching inside Caravaggio’s creative lair. Illuminating spilled red wine on trodden hay. Discarded wooden palette with a decade of dried oils. Wooden Cambodian beads won in market trade.
